About Carbon Beach
Directly off the PCH directly Malibu Aquarium and a block east of Colony House Liquors, probably the best liquor store in the county! There are brown signs on both sides of the road saying 'Costal Access' so it is easy to spot.
A comparatively wide double gate signed Beach Access Open leads between two mansions down to the shore. The path is a little dark and foreboding but comes out on a good expanse of fine light sand. The mansions along the coast rather dominate this beach, and there are no public facilities, but the sea is clean and in the distance you can see Malibu Pier. Not all of the beach has usable dry sand so take care where you are sitting. And although you may see dog walkers here that mean they are local residents and have a permit, other people may not take their dogs to this beach.
The beach access ways are open Sunrise to Sunset and are managed by the Mountains Recreations & Conservation Authority and their rules apply here. It is a great beach for tanning, quiet and clean, though there are strong waves and seaweed depending on the directions of the wind. Not a great swimming beach due to currents and fast waves. Apart from the trash cans in the access path, there are no facilities at this beach, no restrooms, no lifeguards at all. Unusually the path has no stairs though and is comparatively good access for those with wheels.
Very limited facilities on this beach, you'll find county trash cans but that is about it.
Parking is only available on the street, there is no parking lot here.
