About Malibu Surfrider Beach

World renowned as an excellent surfing area. Swimming areas exist but are limited.

One of the best places along the coast to catch some waves, yet still be within easy walking distance of a lot of facilities.  Often packed with experience surfers this is not the place to learn as a beginner, but for those who want to surf or those who want to watch others surf then it is a great choice.

Located right next to the pier and in front of the Lagoon it is accessible by parking and walking through the lagoon area.  There are three points for surfing, known as First Point, Second and Third Point.

The first Point is the one closes to the pier and is suitable for longboards, while the north end of the stretch at third point is good for shortboards.

Located very close to the Malibu Inn this is the beach that tourists staying at the Inn are liable to see, and for them it really is an iconic part of LA.  This is the LA and the Malibu that we have all seen on TV, right here in real life.

Watch the volleyball players on the beach if you are not watching the surfers, and take advantage of the good facilities here.  Unlike the more distant beaches here on Surfrider you'll find dedicated life guards in multiple lifeguard stations keeping a watch out for everybody and their safety.

For your comfort there are restrooms, showers and disabled facilities that are used as much by surfers, swimmers and people going fishing.

MALIBU SURFRIDER BEACH

As you are right next to the pier why not try out the Malibu Farm Pier Cafe?  Great views and great food, just a few minutes walk away.  Or if you are on the other end of the beach think about going to the Marmalade Cafe at Cross Creek Rd which does modern American breakfasts and brunches.

The Malibu Surfrider Beach is a popular spot for surfing.

Nearby Attractions

While most people visit the beach just for a day of sand, sun, surf and fun, there are actually many interesting attractions all within easy reach of the beach. So if you want to combine some activities in a day in the area, or simply want to allow some members of your group to do different things, then consider some of these nearby attractions.

Point Dume - At the end of the beach, visible as you look all the way to the left while facing the sea, Point Dume is a rocky promontory that juts out into the Pacific Ocean. The point, a long bluff, forms the northern end of the Santa Monica Bay. It is most interesting as a rock climbing location as the rocking mound forms a natural climbing wall with very moderate single pitch rock climbing routes that are perfect for the beginner or training, or simply for those simply wishing to try out natural rock climbing.
