About Seal Beach
The best thing about the city of Seal Beach is of course the beach of Seal Beach! Confusingly named, but invitingly appointed this wide sandy beach is associated often with the pier. Although real seals no longer frequent the sands you will see their image is logos, signage and more everywhere. There is a bronze cast statue of 'Slick the seal' the entrance of the pier which makes a great photo with the kids.
On the sands itself, you'll find lifeguards on duty, with clean showers available to rinse off once you are done. Officially over the border from LA into Orange County, it has a different vibe that is more relaxed and welcoming to many. Definitely a place to go with the kids and to spend the day. Parking is plentiful but of course starts to fill up later during the busy times. In peak summer get there by 10am to get a spot that isn't too far to walk. A kids playground is available and there are lots of restaurants within easy walking distance along Main Street.
A unique feature is the power plants, oil refinery and large tanker ships which can be seen in the distance from the beach! Not so good for surfing, but the mild waves are kid friendly but still enough for body boarding depending on the winds.
Parking fees: $3 per 2 hours or $10 for the day
Food: Restaurants within easy walk on Main Street.
